[it doesn't really matter much that heung soo lets the topic drop with little fanfare — nam soon doesn't need it anyway.

sure, in some way, it'd be nice to hear a "thanks," but considering how little he normally deserved things like that (especially coming from heung soo, who really has little reason to thank nam soon ever), but it isn't really necessary to him. words don't really mean very much; nam soon knows the truth of the matter anyway. some things don't necessarily need to be spoken to be conveyed, after all. heung soo engaged him first, he opened the door, and now they were laying there next to each other like old times (or at least, trying to make it feel more like that). that's enough, isn't it? enough for him to know that much.

the situation made heung soo uncomfortable. being alone, in a strange new place, without their normal comforts and things to fall back on. does he really have to voice aloud his appreciation for the few things that can be unchanged. they say that the more things change, the more they stay the same. maybe this was one of those cases, nam soon thinks. he can let it sit this way, and then tease after daybreak about "what an unappreciative bastard" his friend is.

even if it's the furthest thing from the truth.

because that's just how they are. it's how they always were, and honestly, how nam soon hopes they always will be. two guys that are truly the worst at expressing how they feel until everything explodes emotionally, covering up all those little issues like bandaids and patchwork in the form of snark and chiding. some probably couldn't tell, if they overheard, whether or not the two were even friends. the gazes they exchange sometimes look so vicious and uncaring to those not in the know, after all.

but that's just how they cope. and really, how they'll continue to go on and move forward in light of everything going on around them.]

Do we have much of a choice? [he responds with a sigh, one that's heavy. it's equal parts exasperation and the genuine weight of the circumstances that carries through as nam soon lifts his head slightly before letting it fall back against his arm.] It's not like we have some other way to live.
